Social media updates live at Bukit Bintang
“We have to be at Bukit Bintang tomorrow at 1:00PM”
“For?”
“You tweet live from the scene. I’ll upload the pics live”
“Ok. Sounds like fun to me”
At 1:15PM, we were at Bukit Bintang to start our work. It was the first time I’ll be tweeting live from the event so I prepared myself well with some 140 character tweets (in my head). After setup, I was glued to the laptop for about 6 hours straight. I tweeted (inclusive retweets) 118 times in a short six hours! At 5 plus, #everyoneconnects was trending at number 1 on trendsmap.com – it was the collaboration between team tweeters that made it possible.
The rain started just about minutes after the main concert began at 5:45PM but clearly, it did not stop the fans from dancing in the rain (in raincoats). The crowd was enthusiastic and eager beaver ~ especially when there are celebrities like Dafi, Mila, Akim, Bunkface and a whole lot of talented Indie Bands performing live at the concert. I snapped some photos but the fellow photographers took nicer shots (with their DSLRs) and here’s my little collection of their photos.
Even Suki, winner of “One in a million” singing competition in 2006 was at the event! (pic below)
KLStompers were amazing too! (pic below)
How was it like tweeting live from the scene? One word to describe the experience ~ EXCITING! I get the see, feel and experience the entire event and the tweets were live updates. They were not scripted or automated. To top it of all, it was the first time I’m joining the on-ground event after being behind the scene for a month.
The concert ended at 8:00PM sharp as planned. We were there till 9:30PM as I needed to reply the tweets and FB comments, while waiting for Brid to finish up the pics uploads. We had Iranian cuisine at Naab before leaving Bukit Bintang at close to 11:00PM.
My body ached after sitting motionless (almost!) for 6 hours straight, but I would never trade anything for this experience.
This brings me back to the question someone asked me a day ago “What makes you so passionate about digital marketing?” and my answer was “The passion comes from within”. Its very true. There is no way to create passion, and when it is present, there is no why – its there because it is.
Its 3:30AM ~ goodnight!
